September 28th, 2016 - October 15th, 2017 - Czech Cinematograph. The Dawning of the Film Industry (1896–1930)

On the occasion of 120 years since the first film screening in the Czech lands, the exhibition presents unique cinematography collections of the National Technical Museum and the National Film Archive. The exhibition will carry the visitors into the period of film beginnings, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and acquaint them with contemporary film equipment and movie production.

It focuses on inventions and discoveries that led to the rise of cinematography (i.e. chronophotographs, stroboscope, kinesiscope, mutoscope etc.), travelling cinemas, as well as first regular movie theatres (Empire Bio Co., Ponrepo, Illusion, Ponec etc.). The exhibition presents founding figures of Czech cinematography (J. Kříženecký, J. Š. Malostranský, O. Heller, A. Jalovec etc.), which stood in front of the camera and behind it; it shows how first movies were made, depicts old film studios as well as particular phenomena like the legionnaire film.
