Exposition of Time in Šternberk

Expozice času ve Šternberku

The Exposition of Time in Šternberk, after eleven years, follows up on the former clock museum, which was previously located on the premises of the Šternberk castle, and whose contents was the clock-makers collection from the homeland museum in Olomouc. For the new exposition, a Renaissance home in the center of town was reconstructed. This new museum building houses not only items from the homeland museum in Olomouc, but also items from the Jewish museum in Prague, the museum of music and the National Technical Museum. Workers of the National Technical Museum cooperated on a professional presentation with the exhibition creators and were present in 2000, when the idea for a new clock museum first arose.

The Šternberk exposition is not dedicated solely to displaying clocks. Its goal is to show the phenomenon of time from many perspectives. It shows the history of the perception of time, as well as physical discoveries having to do with time and the classification of time into the universal order. Besides the ordinary development of time-measuring devices, from the simplest time-pieces up through the most modern atomic clocks, it also tracks regional watch-makers in Olomouc and right in Šternberk, which is still today linked in people's minds with the former watch factory Chronotechna, whose production is brought to mind by the exposition. An important part of the exposition is a stylized watch-makers workshop, with demonstrated technological examples.

Organizer of the exposition is the town of Šternberk
