Museum of František Křižík in Plánice (birthplace of the inventor)

Muzeum Františka Křižíka v Plánici

Visitors to Klatovsko and Pošumaví are invited to add the town Plánice, birthplace of inventor and founder of Czech electro-technology, František Křižík.

It is a country home from the 19th century, saved from ruin by the state in 1955, which purchased the home from a private owner and arranged the reconstruction. The exposition opened here in 1957; the last major reconstruction took place in 2010.

The centerpiece is a working arc lamp from 1884, powered by an electrical generator, just as was installed by Křižík in 1901 in the electrical generating plant in Čachrov na Šumavě. It comprises a dynamo, oil-based RPM governor and distribution disks, which visitors may use to light the lamp. Machines are in operation during tours. A smaller room is used the show films.

The vision for the exposition comes from the National Technical Museum (dr. Jan Hozák) and the Czech Technical University in Prague (eng. Jan Mikeš and prof. Marcel Efmertová of the electro-technical faculty).
