The National Technical Museum’s collection of automobiles is one of the highest quality collections representing a country in Europe. It shows the development of the production of Czech automobiles against the backdrop of worldwide production; the collection’s focal point are therefore automobiles of domestic production, especially those vehicles manufactured prior to World War II. The collection features a number of significant objects linked to important milestones in the history of the automobile in the Czech lands. Highlights include the first automobile operated in Bohemia – the Benz Viktoria from 1893, the first automobile manufactured in the Czech lands – the NW Präsident from 1898 and the first Czech racing car – the NW 12 HP from 1900.

The extensive collection of automobiles linked to important historical events and prominent individuals also possesses exceptional value. The historically most valuable automobile of this collection is the six-litre twelve-cylinder Tatra 80 from 1935, used by the first Czechoslovak president T. G. Masaryk.

But the collection features more than just important automobiles from the Czech lands. It also includes, for instance, the Bugatti 13 from 1910 – the world’s oldest preserved product of the Molsheim factory of Ettor Bugatti, a twelve-cylinder open-wheel Mercedes-Benz W154/M163 racing car driven by Rudolf Caracciol and the world’s oldest preserved AUDI. The National Technical Museum’s automobile collection features some 120 automobiles.
