Mechanical Engineering MetallurgyThe mechanical engineering metallurgy collection features the processing of iron in mechanical engineering plants through casting and profiling. The foundry collection contains steel and cast-iron castings, foundry tools, models, moulds and their parts, foundry ovens and foundry equipment. These collection items capture the technology used for sand casting, for lost-wax casting, for laminated moulds and other production processes used from the 18th century till present. Past foundry operation is documented by a large model of a foundry acquired for the museum in 1914. The moulding collection features mainly die forging from the first and second halves of the 20th century. In a number of cases the entire technological process from the initial raw product through the various phases to the finished product is captured. The machinery is documented through the use of precise models of forging hammers and presses, created and used for tuition purposes at the Prague polytechnical school in the 19th century and by using perfect models of the latest forging machines of the company Žďárská strojírna from the 1970s and 80s.
