One of the primary industrial design collections with over 160 objects.
The collection’s most valuable parts are models and prototypes of hand tools from the period of 1940-70 that represent one of the essential chapters from the history of Czech and even European industrial design. The oldest of these is the handle of electric scissors, ergonomically formed by sculptor Vincenc Makovský for the shoe industry in 1940. The most extensive collection features designs for light industry by Makovský’s student Zdeněk Kovář. A comparison of the approach to formal and ergonomic solutions for tools is provided by the work of professor Z. Kovář of Zlín from the 1950s to the 80s on the one hand (G. Hlávka, M. Klíma and others) and by Prague industrial designers (S. Lachman, J. Tatoušek, and I. Moucha, A. Appl) on the other.
