The former locomotive depot of the Czech railway system contains over one hundred pieces of rolling stock and other interesting items of railroad technology. Opening hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 10am - 5pm Friday 14. 4. – 10.00 - 18.00 The National Technical Museum is joining the celebrations marking the 700th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Charles IV with the exhibition “Civitas Carolina - Building under the Reign of Charles IV”. The event will highlight the extraordinary achievements in the field of architecture during the great construction boom initiated by this outstanding ruler. It will display an array of contemporary construction elements and methods mainly via functioning replicas of construction machinery. The exhibition introduces the visitor not only to the history and the present of prosthetics as a specific field, but also to the use of technological substitutes across all fields of medicine. It uncovers ample collaboration of experts in medicine, electronics, cybernetics, mechanics, statics, design, and other fields, which precedes the development of unique prostheses and makes it possible. The exhibition is dedicated to the important Czech industrial designer Svatopluk Král. He has been a pioneer in the field of the modern design of machine-tools, as well as a distinctive artist and author of kinetic toys for handicapped children. We would like to invite you to our new museum restaurant Kavárna Muzeum. The staff has prepared a brand new menu for the visitors. Come and see the phones from the late 19th century, 'gems' of the nineties and the latest trends in mobile technology. You can expect to see attractions and interactive games. The exhibition is held on the occasions of the 140th anniversary of Alexander Graham Bell’s patent registration, the 25th anniversary of the launch of the internet in the Czech Republic, and 20 years of widespread mobile phone communication in our country. On the occasion of 120 years since the first film screening in the Czech lands, the exhibition presents unique cinematography collections of the National Technical Museum and the National Film Archive. The exhibition will carry the visitors into the period of film beginnings, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and acquaint them with contemporary film equipment and movie production.
